Zion National Park boasts perhaps the most famous of the slot canyons in Utah – the Zion Narrows. Though this slot canyon ranks as the easiest to traverse within Zion National Park, it is 16 miles long and requires 13 hours to traverse. It includes slippery rocks, river hiking, and some swimming. Red Hollow is located in Orderville near Zion National Park. This slot canyon begins at the end of a dirt road. The hike is only 1.0 mile round trip and is a great place to start slot canyon adventures. Little Wild Horse. This hike is probably the most famous slot canyon for families in Utah. There is something magical and sobering about exploring slot canyons in Southern Utah. Hiking, swimming and sometimes squeezing through high sandstone walls carved by the elements over thousands of hundreds of thousands of years (you read that right) makes you keenly aware of how powerful the natural world around us is.

These are just some of my favorite canyons, slot canyons, or routes. Water always seems to step up the level of fun in the canyons but some are favorites just because of sheer beauty. Hard to believe what a little sand, water, and wind mixed with the finger of God can do to create an incredible slot canyon.

Neon Canyon
Neon Canyon is just a classic – never disappoints. Every season brings a new canyon. Depending on the water levels, Neon dishes out a new look each time. Used to be easy to find solitude there but now it’s like the mall on a spring day – but still beautiful.
Monkey Business
Monkey Business Canyon in the North Wash is just a nice appetizer. The light this day was great and made the canyon even more pretty than usual. Short-ish and fun. Good to throw in to a combo pack.
